lifestyle No Comments »

Dr. Lisa Pruett explains how melasma is treated and describes what melasma looks like. Melasma is a fairly common skin condition that creates the appearance of brown to gray-brown patches of skin, usually on the face. Melasma can be treated with chemical peels, microdermabrasion or dermabrasion to remove the top layers of the skin.

Melasma Hyperpigmentation Treatment 2019 | Dr Mona Vand

lifestyle No Comments »

In this video i share the hyperpigmentation routine that’s finally been working for me! If you follow my channel for a while you probably saw my original video on this almost 2 years ago…

*Link to other video on hyperpigmentation:

This current video shares a topical regimen that’s worked best for me, written below. I can’t share links because they’re all compounded 🙁

1: Hydroquinone every night at step 1 (was using it every morning and night, now just in the evening)

2: cysteamine every morning for 30 minutes then rinse (was using for 15 minutes, we bumped up to 30 minutes)

3: glycolic cream – 2 nights a week applied 15-30 mins after hydroquinone

4: retinol – 2 nights a week applied 15-30 mins after hydroquinone *liquid peel pad – one night a week. Use first then hydroquinone 30 – 40 mins after

5: bleach 5.5% – stronger hydroquinone, use once every 10 days (on it’s own – not with anything else layered)!

also * my doctor’s name is Pearl Grimes, she’s a specialist in this and located in LA!

Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products in Wastewater

supplements No Comments »

Anthony Outley, Matt Sears, Lincoln Fugal, Shane Moser

On January 26, 2017, The UNC Coastal Studies Institute (UNC CSI) hosted a lecture on pharmaceuticals and personal care products in coastal waters as part of the “Science on the Sound” lecture series. This series, held monthly, highlights research on coastal topics and issues in northeast North Carolina. In January 2017, the program featured Drs. Sid Mitra and Jamie Dewitt, from the departments of Geological Sciences and Pharmacology and Toxicology at East Carolina University. Their presentation, entitled “Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products as Emerging Pollutants in Coastal Waters”, covered some of their recent research on these relatively new pollutants and their presence in our coastal waters.

Human-derived compounds are part of the environment, including the water that we drink. The presence of these compounds in our drinking water may pose risks to our health. Some compounds are regulated based on their known health risks, but many of the compounds found in our drinking water are unregulated. One class of compounds that is not currently regulated are known as pharmaceutical and personal care product pollutants (PPCPs). These are “emerging contaminants” and are challenging to regulate. While these pollutants occur in very low concentrations in drinking water, their potential health risks at current environmental levels are often under-researched. In the presentation, Drs. Mitra and DeWitt will discussed some of these PPCP compounds and conveyed information about their presence in coastal areas of North Carolina.

Testosterone Production

lifestyle No Comments »

Developed and produced by http://www.MechanismsinMedicine.com
Animation Description: This animation represents a visual interpretation of the production of testosterone and is not indicative of clinical effectiveness.
The hypothalamus releases gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) in pulses every 60 to 90 minutes to stimulate the pulsatile release of luteinizing hormone (LH) from the pituitary gland into the bloodstream.
LH binds the LH receptor on the Leydig cells of the testes.
Binding initiates a cascade of events which include the conversion of cholesterol (depicted as LDL here) to pregnenolone followed by a series of reactions, which convert pregnenolone to testosterone.
Testosterone, secreted by the testes, diffuses into the peripheral circulation to be carried to target tissues.
In liver, muscle and adipose tissue, testosterone binds directly to its androgen receptor (AR) to exert its biological effect.
In skin, hair, the prostate gland and gonadal tissue, testosterone must be converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) by 5-alpha-reductase in order to bind the androgen receptor.
In bone and brain, testosterone is converted by aromatization to estradiol (E2), which binds the estrogen receptor (E2R) to carry out its effects.
