Let’s face it, many, if not most, people work in jobs with little to no activity. We develop routines that aren’t affective to our overall health. Melanie Carvell hopes to change that so that people are more active and stick to better routines.

Melanie Carvell is the Director of the Sanford Women’s Health Clinic in Bismarck, North Dakota. Originally from the small town of Mott, ND, Melanie is a proud graduate of the University of North Dakota.

Melanie is an accomplished triathlete who is a six-time All American, representing USA Triathlon on eight World Championship teams, and winning a bronze medal in Germany in 1999.

She has trained at the U.S. Olympic Training Center with the national cycling team, was named North Dakota’s Sportscasters/Sportswriters Athlete of the Year, chosen as the North Dakota Prairie Rose State Games Athlete of the Year, and received the “Picture of Health” award from the State of North Dakota for being a leader in women’s health.

Medicare Explained, understanding Medicare, Medicare made clear. In this video I am going help you learn about Medicare explained in an easy to understand format. By the end of this video Medicare will be made clear for you. You will understand how Medicare works.
Once you understand the Medicare basics of Part A and Medicare Part B, you will be faced with choosing one of three paths to take with your Medicare. .

Medicare Part A is that portion of your health insurance that pays for your healthcare whenever you are an inpatient in a medical facility. As soon as you become an inpatient in a hospital, Medicare Part A takes over. The same when you become an inpatient in a skilled nursing facility or hospice. The one exception is that if you are not able to physically get to a medical facility for healthcare, Medicare Part A also pays for home healthcare.
Think of Medicare Part A is inpatient insurance.
Medicare Part B is the part of Medicare that pays for outpatient and physician services.
This is the portion Medicare insurance you use when you see a doctor or have lab tests or physical therapy and so on. Medicare Part B also includes some wellness coverage.
Medicare Part B is the part of Medicare people use most often because most of our medical care is via outpatient services. Even many surgeries and hospital services are now done as an outpatient and are thus covered under Medicare Part B.
It is important that this Medicare explained video communicate what you need to know about Medicare. Understanding Medicare is important. So Medicare made clear is the first step to making an informed decision.

Your Original Medicare (Part A & B) is good anywhere in the country. You can see any doctor, go to any medical facility in any state or territory, as long as they accept Medicare. You do not need to get permission from a primary care physician. You have both freedom to go where you need and control to see who you choose.
Also it is important to understand that Medicare Advantage Plans are local coverage. If you are a snowbird, and RVer or just travel the country that should rule MAPD as an option.

Emerging Disease or Emerging Diagnosis?

health No Comments »

Toward the end of the 20th century, deadly microbes seemed to be springing up out of nowhere: Lassa virus in 1969, Ebola virus in 1976 and HIV in the 1980s. Public health officials classified them as “emerging diseases,” meaning they are newly introduced or rising rapidly in human populations. Recent data, however, suggest these viruses may instead have been circulating widely for hundreds or thousands of years. We may not be contending with emerging disease at all, but emerging diagnosis of ancient and frequent disease. This paradigm shift has implications towards countering these viruses now before they become global threats.

Autoimmune Diseases – Causes, Symptoms, Treatments & More…

Rehealthify offers reliable, up-to-date health information, anytime, anywhere, for free.

— video script below —

Your body’s immune system protects you from disease and infection. But if you have an autoimmune disease, your immune system attacks healthy cells in your body by mistake. Autoimmune diseases can affect many parts of the body.

No one is sure what causes autoimmune diseases. They do tend to run in families. Women – particularly African-American, Hispanic-American, and Native-American women – have a higher risk for some autoimmune diseases.

There are more than 80 types of autoimmune diseases, and some have similar symptoms. This makes it hard for your health care provider to know if you really have one of these diseases, and if so, which one. Getting a diagnosis can be frustrating and stressful. Often, the first symptoms are fatigue, muscle aches and a low fever. The classic sign of an autoimmune disease is inflammation, which can cause redness, heat, pain and swelling.

The diseases may also have flare-ups, when they get worse, and remissions, when symptoms get better or disappear. Treatment depends on the disease, but in most cases one important goal is to reduce inflammation. Sometimes doctors prescribe corticosteroids or other drugs that reduce your immune response.
